Transit Running Across The Golden Ears Bridge
Less than a week after the Golden Ears Bridge opened, Translink started running its vehicles across the Fraser River today (#595 – Langley Center), and with me being one of those who will be taking transit across the bridge, I decided to record my first trip over and post it with our readers.
Which is not to say that it’s perfectly shot video. I sat at the front of the bus and balanced the camera (a Flip Ultra) on my arm on top of one of the bars guarding the wheel well. And yeah, the bridge is a little bumpy too.
I boarded at Haney Place Mall at about 8:10, and at 8:50 I got off the bus at Langley Center to continue the rest of my trip. Prior to today I would walk on to the Albion Ferry and after arriving at the other side, walk into Fort Langley (about 20 minutes) before catching the bus for Langley Center. That wasn’t so bad, but in the middle of January, when it’s 2 degrees and raining, it really isn’t that fun. But no longer.
I was quite surprised to find only about four other people on the bus for the whole trip. Hopefully low ridership like that won’t give Translink any ideas. Maybe the earlier buses were more crowded.
All in all, I can’t really say that it could have been any easier, and it’s definitely going to make the morning commute much more relaxing.
