We won’t have a post tomorrow, considering that it’s Canada Day and all, but we’d like to give you some information on what’s happening in both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to celebrate the birth of Canada. Some of this information taken from the District of Maple Ridge website at http://www.mapleridge.ca/EN/topnav/events/months/events/canada_day.html
The party gets started early in Pitt Meadows – 8:00am to be specific. It’s an 8km run/walk, which is held each year, leading up to the official ceremony getting under way at the cenotaph at 10:30. Bring the kids …

If you’re like some parents, you might already be counting the days (seventy) until the kids go back to school. Others will be looking forward to the time that they get to catch up with their kids.
Those without children are wondering what all this about.
Even if you’re happy that the kids have a couple of months vacation right now, you’re eventually going to run out of things for them to do – and no, the XBox 360 and Facebook aren’t really useful solutions to the whole thing. Send them …

Ninja Spy. First Reign. The Easy Brothers. The Perfect Trend. The Wrecktals. Bone Daddies. Prophet Fulfilled. Remove the Doubt.
Any of these bands sound familiar? No? Well, head down to the gazebo at Peace Memorial Park today at noon, and check out Adstock 09. This is Maple Ridge’s only free, outdoor alternative music festival, and they want everyone to come down and see what it’s all about as they celebrate their 5th year of existence. And if you want to get involved, remember that this event is put on entirely …

One of the interesting things about the weekly “Crusin’ the Dub” show and shine events at the A&W on 228th Street is the extremely wide variety of cars that you’ll see on display. There are representatives from just about every genre of car lover out there, and it’s nice to see that these cars actually *driven* to the show. I can’t remember the last time (if ever) that I saw a car pulled in on a trailer.
You’ll see everything from a tricked out Buick from the ‘30s to the …

This is the second installment in our series of weekly posts that will spotlight local websites pertaining to the Ridge-Meadows area. Some will be photo sites, some will be the sites of local businesses, and some will be blogs. If you’d like your site to be showcased, please send an email to the address at the bottom of this post.
You wouldn’t necessarily think that a (smaller) town such as Maple Ridge would have a site dedicated to photos shot just within it’s boundaries, now would you? But I showed you …

If you’ve ever been down around Peace Memorial Park anytime between May and October, you’ve probably spent some time visiting the Haney Farmers Market.
From their website:
The Haney Farmers Market is held in Downtown Haney, the heart of Maple Ridge at the Memorial Peace Park. Every Saturday mid May through mid October, farm fresh veggies, baking and crafts are available.
If you’re looking for something that just isn’t the same-old same-old, this is probably going to be the place where you’ll find it, with vendors selling a multitude of different items, everything …

Less than a week after the Golden Ears Bridge opened, Translink started running its vehicles across the Fraser River today (#595 – Langley Center), and with me being one of those who will be taking transit across the bridge, I decided to record my first trip over and post it with our readers.
Which is not to say that it’s perfectly shot video. I sat at the front of the bus and balanced the camera (a Flip Ultra) on my arm on top of one of the bars guarding the wheel …

If you’re looking for something a little different to do on Father’s Day, why not take Dad fishing?
Courtesy of BC Family Fishing, you can print a complimentary fishing license that’s valid all this weekend in all non-tidal freshwater in BC.
One of the best places in the Maple Ridge area would have to be Mike Lake, in Golden Ears Park. There’s a fishing dock at the lake and it’s stocked with trout out of a hatchery in Abbotsford.
If it’s something you haven’t done in awhile, why not give fishing a try …

One of the things that I’ve unfortunately never attended in the whole time that I’ve lived in the Ridge Meadows area is the Maple Ridge Jazz & Blues Festival.
That’s going to change this year, though, as I’ve already made plans to attend the one day festival, held this year on Saturday, August 8th from noon until 11pm at the Peace Memorial Park.
The Jazz & Blues Festival will feature a couple of outdoor stages, and even some homegrown talent, in the form of Steve Kozak, and Jill Newman, both from …
